14-year-old boy died after being ‘s**torted’ by ‘girl’ online

Kansas Mom Warns Parents After 14-Year-Old Son Dies by Suicide Following Online Sextortion
Morgan Moore, a heartbroken mother from El Dorado, Kansas, is urging parents everywhere to talk openly with their children about the dark realities of the internet. Her 14-year-old son, Caleb Moore, tragically died by suicide after being blackmailed by someone posing as a teenage girl on TikTok and Snapchat.

A 35-Minute Chat That Changed Everything
According to Morgan, Caleb began chatting with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl on TikTok on June 10. Their conversation quickly moved to Snapchat, where the person sent compromising images of “herself” and encouraged Caleb to send similar photos in return.

What followed was devastating.

“Made him feel like his life was over as he had made this mistake,”

Morgan explained in an emotional interview. After sending the photos, Caleb was immediately threatened—the scammer demanded large sums of money in exchange for not releasing the images.

Caleb’s Final Moments
In a moment of desperation, Caleb sent the blackmailer a photo of the family’s firearm, possibly hoping the threat would end. It didn’t.

Overwhelmed and terrified, Caleb took his own life using that gun.

“When I got there Caleb was still alive and breathing but they were unable to resuscitate him… They stopped trying as nothing was working,”

Morgan said, recalling the devastating moment she arrived home.

“I was hysterical and screaming and begging them to not give up on my boy and let me go to him. I was inconsolable.”

The Truth Comes to Light

At first, Caleb’s sudden death left the family shattered and confused. It wasn’t until investigators examined his phone that they uncovered the terrifying truth: Caleb had been the victim of sextortion.

“They had gone through his TikTok messages and showed me the progression. It had stolen my boy’s happiness and hope in a 35-minute span,”

Morgan shared.

According to the FBI, this type of cybercrime is on the rise, especially among children and teens.

“We’ve seen a huge increase in the number of cases involving children and teens being threatened and coerced into sending explicit images online,” the FBI wrote on its official website.

“In some cases, the first contact from the criminal will be a threat. The person may claim to already have a revealing picture or video of a child that will be shared if the victim does not send more pictures.”

A Mother’s Plea to Other Parents

Determined to prevent other families from suffering the same fate, Morgan is speaking out.

“I want parents to understand how quickly something like this can happen,”

she said. She’s now using Caleb’s story to raise awareness about the dangers of chatting with strangers online—especially when predators disguise themselves as peers.

She urges parents to have uncomfortable but necessary conversations with their children.

“This can happen in minutes. You think your child knows better, but these people are manipulative. They know how to scare them, how to trap them. Please—talk to your kids. Let them know they can come to you, no matter what.”

What Is Sextortion?

Sextortion is a form of online blackmail where victims—often minors—are tricked or pressured into sending explicit images. Once the scammer has compromising content, they threaten to share it publicly unless the victim sends more material or money.

According to the FBI and child safety organizations, these scams are often run by criminal groups overseas, who target teens by posing as other teenagers on platforms like TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram.

Support for Caleb’s Family
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help support the Moore family in the wake of their tragic loss. Meanwhile, Caleb is being remembered as a sweet and curious teenager with a love for life that was cruelly taken away.
