DHS Notifies 530,000 Migrants They Must Leave U.S.: Report

The Trump administration is implementing significant measures to terminate the immigration parole program established during the Biden era, which permitted over 500,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, and Nicaragua to enter and temporarily reside in the United States. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has commenced the distribution of termination notices to these individuals, indicating that their legal residency and work authorization have officially concluded. This action follows a recent Supreme Court ruling that supported the Trump administration’s efforts to dismantle the contentious policy.

Under President Biden’s initiative, migrants were afforded two-year stays and work permits contingent upon securing a U.S. sponsor. However, officials from the Trump administration have characterized this as an abuse of executive authority that jeopardized national security. They contend that the parole system was deficient in terms of proper vetting and enforcement, resulting in mass migration with insufficient oversight. DHS representatives now assert that the program was not driven by compassion but rather aimed at circumventing lawful immigration procedures.

The Biden administration defended the initiative as a humanitarian effort; however, detractors, including DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, have accused it of inundating the job market, enabling fraud, and attributing its repercussions to Republicans. Officials maintain that this policy adversely affected American workers and undermined immigration law.

With the Supreme Court’s affirmation of the policy’s termination, individuals who entered the U.S. through the CHNV parole program must depart if they have not obtained legal status. DHS has begun issuing notifications via email and has revoked their employment authorization effective immediately.

As part of its enforcement strategy, DHS is promoting voluntary departure through the CBP Home Mobile App, providing travel assistance and a $1,000 exit bonus for those who comply.
