Donald Trump issues alarming warning after abrupt G7 exit

Donald Trump sparked concern on Monday (June 16) after leaving the G7 summit in Canada ahead of schedule and posting a cryptic warning about Iran on social media.

The early departure came just days after a dramatic escalation in violence between Iran and Israel, which began when Israel launched a surprise strike on Iranian nuclear and military sites. In response, Iran retaliated with missile attacks on Tel Aviv, pushing the two adversaries dangerously close to open war.

The rapidly deteriorating situation in the Middle East was expected to be a major point of discussion at this yearโ€™s G7, which brings together the leaders of the worldโ€™s largest economies. But Trumpโ€™s sudden exit, and his ominous comments that followed, have raised fresh questions about the U.S. administrationโ€™s next move, per CNN.

โ€œIran Cannot Have a Nuclear Weaponโ€
Shortly after departing the summit, Trump posted a message on Truth Social urging immediate action, and issuing a stark warning, writing: โ€œIran should have signed the โ€˜dealโ€™ I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CANNOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!โ€

Trump has been pressuring Iran to agree to a revised nuclear deal with the P5+1 nations (the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, China, and Russia), the group that has been negotiating with Iran over its nuclear program since 2006. His post suggested frustration with stalled talks and signaled a heightened urgency.

Conflicting Accounts of His Departure
French President Emmanuel Macron told reporters that Trump had left the G7 early to help mediate a potential ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

But Trump quickly pushed back on that claim, writing: โ€œPublicity-seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a โ€˜cease fireโ€™ between Israel and Iran.

โ€œWrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire,โ€ he added. โ€œMuch bigger than that. Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay tuned!โ€

The nature of the โ€œbigger issueโ€ Trump referred to remains unclear.

White House: โ€œMuch Was Accomplishedโ€
Despite the abrupt exit, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt sought to downplay any concerns. In a statement posted on Twitter, she said (via BBC News): โ€œMuch was accomplished, but because of whatโ€™s going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with Heads of State.โ€

The Presidentโ€™s warning and the mystery surrounding his early departure have added another layer of uncertainty to a volatile geopolitical moment. The international community remains on edge as tensions between Israel and Iran continue to escalate, with no clear path to de-escalation in sight.
