A video recorded at an IMSS hospital shows two female interns mocking a patient in pain. The footage sparked outrage on social media and prompted the Mexican Social Security Institute to take action.

The video was recorded inside a hospital and shows two women in medical uniform while laughing in front of the camera. What has provoked a strong wave of indignation on social networks is that, in the background, a woman can clearly be heard screaming.

The incident occurred at the IMSS General Hospital number 2 in Irapuato, Guanajuato. The protagonists of the video are two undergraduate medical interns who provide their social service in that medical center. The images circulated on platforms such as TikTok, where they went viral.

What happened
According to reports published by the media, the two young women used clown filters while simulating with gestures and laughter the screams of pain emitted by the patient.

The affected woman’s face does not appear in the video, but her voice is clearly audible as she cries out for help with phrases such as “Oh, please, my God!”.

The patient was hospitalized at the time of the video and did not give any consent to be recorded. Her medical situation has not been disclosed, but the media agree that she was in a vulnerable condition, which aggravates the lack of professional ethics in this case.

Both undergraduate interns were wearing clinical uniforms and were inside a hospital area. According to what transpired, the women were performing their social service in this IMSS center, so they were not authorized to provide unsupervised care or to film inside the hospital.

The scene, accompanied by the visual effects, generated a rapid response from official institutions. The behavior was also pointed out as inappropriate by numerous users of social networks.

The consequences after the dissemination of the video
The Mexican Social Security Institute issued a statement on October 21, 2025 in which it forcefully expressed its position on the video. The document reads, “The Institute categorically reproves any conduct contrary to the principles of respect, ethics and professionalism that govern public service and medical care.”

They also clarified that the actions of the inmates “do not correspond to the code of conduct under which the public servants of the Institute must abide”.

The institution explained that the IMSS Ethics Committee will analyze the case and determine the corresponding sanctions. According to the IMSS Code of Conduct, the doctors may have committed human rights, discrimination and psychological aggressions.

So far, the authorities have not disclosed whether the doctors have received specific disciplinary measures. The official statement merely announced that an internal review had been initiated to “clarify responsibilities”.

The video generated a wave of reactions on social networks, where many people questioned the professionalism and ethics of those involved. One person wrote: “What a lack of professionalism and empathy. In the care of a patient, the first thing should be humanity and respect for their pain”. The other one added: “Are these professionals? What a lack of humanity…”

Another Internet user expressed: “How barbaric… heartless. Until they are yelled at like that by a loved one!”. Another person said: “Tutorial on how to lose your job in a minute”.

Another user was outraged: “Although undergraduate interns are not empowered to prescribe without supervision or see patients without authorization from a superior, mocking the patient’s pain is already way out of line. They should apologize to the patient, her relatives and to the hospital”.

The case continues to generate repudiation in social networks and in the medical field, while awaiting the resolution of the IMSS Ethics Committee.
