A relative discovered the couple unresponsive around 9 a.m., WBRC 6 News reported, citing Hoover Police. Both had suffered gunshot wounds. Paramedics attempted resuscitation but pronounced them dead at the scene.

In 2021, she left full-time reporting to teach at Thompson High School in Alabaster, leading the broadcast journalism program. She earned Advisor of the Year from the Alabama Scholastic Press Association in 2024, with her students winning top honors.
