The annual Oscars is the perfect stage for actors to shine – and just as much attention is often paid to the red carpet looks as to who actually takes home the awards. This year was no exception, and one glamorous entrance had everyone doing a double take.
On Sunday night, one 29-year-old actress stepped onto the red carpet and absolutely sparkled in front of the cameras. She arrived at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles wearing a striking blue corseted gown, paired with bold gold accessories and sleek styling, confidently posing for the photographers.

Many viewers quickly noticed the actress looked noticeably slimmer, and some admitted they didn’t even recognize her at first. Photos from the red carpet quickly spread online, sparking a wave of reactions.
“I genuinely didn’t recognize her at first,” one person wrote online.
Another commented: “Wait… is that really her?”
A third added: “She looks completely different.”
”Thought this was Hailee Steinfeld at first,” a fourth said.

The star turning heads was Barbie Ferreira, best known for playing Kat Hernandez in the hit HBO series Euphoria. The 29-year-old became a fan favorite for her confident and outspoken character on the show.
Recently, however, Ferreira has been making headlines for her noticeable weight-loss transformation. According to previous reports, the change came after she left Euphoria and began focusing on the next phase of her career. A source previously told the Daily Mail that the actress wanted to reinvent her image.
“Since she quit Euphoria, the opportunities have been drying up and she knew that a reinvention was necessary to maintain longevity,” the insider claimed.
They added that Ferreira is also hoping to take on a wider variety of roles.
“She wants to be able to play sexy parts too and will do what it takes to succeed,” the source said.
Another insider suggested that the actress and New York native has always cared about how she presents herself in the industry.
“She actually wasn’t in Euphoria that much, but the time she was on set it was clear that her image was important to her,” the insider said.
Although many were shocked by her new look at the 98th Academy Awards, plenty of fans also praised Barbie for her red carpet outfit — especially the blue gown, which many loved.

Ferreira, who is of Brazilian descent and and was raised by her mother, aunt and grandmother, announced she was leaving Euphoria back in 2022.
Back then, she shared an emotional message with fans.
“After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye,” she wrote on Instagram. “I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it.”

Since then, she has continued working in the entertainment industry, including appearing in the 2023 film House of Spoils alongside Ariana DeBose.
She also made headlines after walking in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show last year, a moment she later described as surreal. And judging by the buzz surrounding her latest Oscars appearance, fans are clearly still watching what she does next.
