The tragic accident that occurred on the morning of last Sunday, July 16, on the CE-060 highway, between Caririaçu and Juazeiro do Norte, casts a veil of mourning over the Cariri region.

The irreversible loss of a whole family—which included three-year-old Miguel Nascimento Gomes, Sebastião Cícero Gomes, and Hérida Nascimento da Silva—highlights the impermanence of life and the unpredictable nature of fate.

A grim picture is painted by the information, which was confirmed by the Ceará Military Fire Department and aired by TV Verdes Mares. Under normal circumstances, the family’s journey from Várzea Alegre to Juazeiro do Norte would have taken approximately an hour.

The trip’s purpose—a surgery that young Miguel would have to have—brings even more sorrow to the tragedy. The expectation of recovery and health was suddenly dashed, and it was replaced by suffering and sadness.

Approximately seven in the morning, the car crashed into a stream close to Sítio Piripiri. The water’s depth of about five meters made rescue challenging and ultimately led to the death.
