From “You May Never Have Children” to Triplets: Antonia’s Extraordinary Journey
Motherhood is one of life’s greatest challenges — and raising triplets takes that challenge to an entirely different level. At just 26 years old, Antonia Hristova from Sofia is already living a reality few can imagine. Today, her life revolves around three baby boys — Alexander, Viktor, and Kristian — who are eight months old and have completely transformed her world.
“Since the boys were born, I’ve been a full-time mom — seven days a week, with no days off,” Antonia says with a smile. “But it’s the most desired job in the world.”
A Diagnosis That Changed Everything
Before becoming a mother, Antonia spent more than five years working as a cashier and administrator at a karting track. Motherhood was something she dreamed of — but never felt guaranteed.
“The pregnancy was both expected and unexpected,” she explains. “Several doctors had told us that we probably wouldn’t be able to have children. So when I found out I was pregnant, the happiness was overwhelming.”
Against all medical expectations, Antonia conceived naturally. At first, doctors believed she was carrying twins. But during her 12-week checkup, the truth became clear — three heartbeats were detected.
“I was completely shocked,” Antonia recalls. “I knew triplets existed, but I never believed it could happen to me. I was terrified — whether I could carry them, whether I would manage after birth. My husband, on the other hand, was overjoyed.”
Despite the fear, the couple made a firm decision: all three babies would be given the chance to grow.
A Strong Pregnancy Against the Odds
Remarkably, Antonia’s pregnancy progressed smoothly. She continued working until her seventh month and remained physically active throughout.
At 20 weeks, doctors performed a cervical cerclage to help support the pregnancy.
“I felt confident,” she says. “I believed I could do it. My goal was to reach at least 34 weeks — and I managed to carry them until 36 weeks, the very beginning of the ninth month.”
A planned cesarean section was scheduled for December 12. But the babies had other plans.
“Alexander decided he wanted to arrive earlier,” Antonia says. “My water broke on the morning of December 11, and just a few hours later, all three boys were born by C-section.”
Her husband, Georgi, was by her side during the most emotional moment of her life.
“At first, I was scared. But when I saw him just minutes before the surgery, all the fear disappeared.”
Three Tiny Fighters

One by one, the boys entered the world — Alexander, followed by Viktor and Kristian. Each had his own amniotic sac and umbilical cord, making them fraternal triplets.
Seeing her babies for the first time was both emotional and frightening.
“They looked so small and fragile compared to the other newborns around us. I blamed myself and wondered if I had failed them.”
But the medical team was impressed. The babies were not only healthy, but unusually strong for triplets. Alexander weighed 1,900 grams, Viktor 1,680 grams, and Kristian 1,960 grams — remarkable weights for a multiple birth.
Life as a Mother of Triplets
Once the initial shock faded, everyday life began — feeding schedules, sleep routines, and constant care.
“I follow a strict daily rhythm,” Antonia explains. “I go out, meet friends, even attend appointments. The boys are always with me. I feed them one by one, starting with the most impatient.”
Not every day is easy.
“There are moments when I lose my patience or feel overwhelmed. I cry a little, pull myself together, and keep going.”
Her husband remains her greatest support, and both sets of grandparents help whenever possible.
“Whenever we ask them to watch the boys — even for just an hour — they are there for us.”
‘A Hero Mom’
Strangers often stop Antonia on the street to admire her strength.
“People tell me, ‘You’re a hero mom,’” she says. “And yes, that’s how I feel. It takes incredible strength and willpower — but nothing compares to having children.”
For Antonia, the future is defined by simple wishes.
“My biggest hope is health — for our family and for everyone we love. Everything else can be achieved with hard work, determination, and faith.”
