In a cowardly response typical of the embattled Democrat. California Governor Gavin Newsom falsely claimed that the Los Angeles riots began on Saturday, June 7, 2025, after President Trump federalized the California National Guard. However, the facts show that the riot started the day before, following ICE immigration sweeps in Southern California.
In reaction to these wild riots, Trump sent in thousands of National Guardsmen and then additionally mobilized several hundred Marines to bring order to the chaos. These obvious falsehoods have fueled criticism of Newsom for his weak leadership and political opportunism.
Such was shown when Newsom made a series of false statements in his retelling of events. He said, โOn Saturday morning, when federal agents jumped out of an unmarked van near a Home Depot parking lot, they began grabbing people.โ
Continuing his lies, the Democrat claimed, โIn response, every day Angelinos came out to exercise their Constitutional right to free speech and assembly. To protest their governmentโs actions. In turn, the State of California and the City and County of Los Angeles sent our police officers to help keep the peace, and with some exceptions, they were successful.โ
Shifting blame to the president, Newsom whined, โDonald Trump, without consulting with Californiaโs law enforcement leaders, commandeered 2,000 of our stateโs National Guard members to deploy on our streets. Thatโs when the downward spiral began. He doubled down on his dangerous National Guard deployment by fanning the flames even harder.โ
Concluding his false statements, the California Democrat declared, โAnd the President did it on purpose. As the news spread throughout LA, anxiety for family and friends ramped up. Protests started again. By night, several dozen lawbreakers became violent and destructive. They vandalized property. They tried to assault police officers.โ
As we reported, Gavin Newsom is so desperate to dodge responsibility for his actions that he has sued Donald Trump. In a post to X, the Democrat stated, โFollowing President Trumpโs call to arrest Governor Gavin Newsom, the Governor and Attorney General Rob Bonta today are filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration to end the illegal and unnecessary takeover of a CalGuard unit, which has needlessly escalated chaos and violence in the Los Angeles region.โ
Continuing his freakout, he said, โThe lawsuit, which names President Trump, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and the Department of Defense, outlines why the takeover violates the U.S. Constitution and exceeds the Presidentโs Title 10 authority, not only because the takeover occurred without the consent or input of the Governor, as federal law requires, but also because it was unwarranted.โ
Concluding his theatrical post, Newsom said, โDonald Trump is creating fear and terror by failing to adhere to the U.S. Constitution and overstepping his authority. This is a manufactured crisis to allow him to take over a state militia, damaging the very foundation of our republic. Every governor, red or blue, should reject this outrageous overreach. This is beyond incompetence โ this is him intentionally causing chaos, terrorizing communities, and endangering the principles of our great democracy. It is an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism. We will not let this stand.โ
