Just as I lifted the knife to cut the wedding cake, my sister held me close, her arms squeezing me with urgency

Chaos in the Grand Conservatory
The guests screamed. Plates shattered. The Grand Conservatory echoed with chaos. I stumbled forward, my heart racing, struggling to process the pandemonium. The elegant decorations, the finely dressed guests—all blurred into a surreal scene.

Only Sarah’s grip on my wrist kept me tethered to reality. Her urgency pulled me forward, my legs moving even as my mind lagged. Could David really have planned something sinister for this night? The thought chilled me. His furious expression confirmed Sarah’s warning.

A Frantic Escape
We burst through the kitchen doors, startling the staff. They froze, staring in confusion as we raced past. Pots clattered. Silverware jingled. Yet their noise was swallowed by the alarms ringing in my head.

“Where are we going?” I gasped, struggling to keep up.

“Just keep running,” Sarah panted. “We need to get out before he…” Her voice trailed as we reached the service exit.

The cool night air hit me. It was a relief from the suffocating chaos inside. I drew a shaky breath, grateful for the pause.

Shocking Revelations
Once we reached safety, I demanded, “What did you mean by ‘what he planned for me’?” My voice trembled with fear and anger.

Sarah scanned the empty street. “David… he’s not who you think. He has a history—marrying wealthy women and—”

“And what?” I pressed.

“And making them vanish,” she whispered. “He takes their wealth. Then… they disappear. I found evidence linking him to his previous wives’ disappearances.

Blood drained from my face. My wedding had been a trap. I almost walked blindly into it.

“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” I choked, tears stinging.

“I tried,” Sarah said, her voice heavy with regret. “You were so in love. I wanted proof first. But when I saw him watching the clock… I had to act.”

Running Toward Safety
I nodded, understanding the impossible position she’d faced. “We need to go to the police,” I said, determination hardening my voice.

Sarah nodded. “I have everything we need. First, we must reach safety.”

Together, we ran into the night, leaving behind the shattered remnants of a wedding that was never meant to be. The Grand Conservatory, once a symbol of perfection, now stood as a reminder of how close I came to losing everything.

Fear gave way to resolve. I wasn’t just fleeing. I was running toward truth. Toward justice. And with Sarah by my side, I knew I could face whatever came next.
