New York’s mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani drops 4 fiery words for Trump

In a historic landslide, New Yorkers have chosen 34-year-old Zohran Mamdani as the city’s next mayor, decisively defeating former governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

With over 97% of the votes counted, Mamdani secured at least 1.03 million votes— more than all other candidates combined — making him the first Muslim mayor of New York City and the first of South Asian heritage.

Just a year ago, hardly anyone had heard his name. But now, he’s making history.

At just 34, Zohran Mamdani has won the New York mayoral race, becoming the city’s youngest mayor in a century and its first Muslim leader.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan praised the victory as a triumph for optimism, tweeting:

”New Yorkers faced a clear choice – between hope and fear – and just like we’ve seen in London – hope won.”

”Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching..”
At his election night rally outside the Brooklyn Paramount, Mamdani delivered a message celebrating New York’s identity as a city of immigrants:

”New York will remain a city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants and as of tonight, led by an immigrant.”

But Mamdani didn’t stop there. He wasted no time calling out President Donald Trump, signaling the fierce political battles ahead. In front of a cheering crowd, he delivered four pointed words directly at the president:

”Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: turn the volume up!”

Mamdani’s campaign had already positioned him as a counterweight to Trump’s policies, particularly on immigration, and his bold remarks make it clear that he intends to continue the fight from City Hall.

”If anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him,” Mamdani told supporters.

”And if there is any way to terrify a despot, it is by dismantling the very conditions that allowed him to accumulate power. This is not only how we stop Trump, it’s how we stop the next one.”

”If you have a communist running New York…”
The city’s Board of Elections reported the largest voter turnout in more than 50 years, with more than two million New Yorkers casting ballots.

The victory is part of a broader sweep for Democrats in Tuesday’s elections, energizing the party ahead of next year’s congressional contests.

Mamdani’s win also sets the stage for a high-stakes showdown with Trump, who has already threatened to withhold federal funding if the Democratic socialist takes office.

”If you have a communist running New York, all you’re doing is wasting the money you’re sending there,” Trump warned on CBS’ 60 Minutes, signaling that Republicans will make Mamdani’s progressive policies a target.

Still, the mayor-elect is undeterred. While outlining plans to tackle the city’s cost-of-living crisis — including a proposed rental freeze, universal childcare, and other bold measures — he made one thing clear:

”So hear me, President Trump, when I say this: To get to any of us you will have to go through all of us.”

Inside Mamdani’s policies
At just 34, Zohran Mamdani has risen rapidly, shaking up New York’s political scene. With his left-leaning, populist message, he has now claimed the most powerful position in the city.

He emphasizes authenticity, grassroots organizing, and connecting with communities, gaining attention on social media while facing criticism from opponents and President Trump.

Mamdani’s policies focus on affordability, including freezing rent for rent-stabilized apartments, expanding city-owned grocery stores, and making public transit free.

He also plans to lower the cost of child care and raise the minimum wage to $30 per hour by 2030.

To fund these initiatives, he proposes higher taxes on corporations and wealthy residents, though support from state officials is uncertain. Public safety and quality of life are central, with a Department of Community Safety aimed at handling mental health crises without police involvement.
