NYPD detective found dead one week after controversial surgery

The New York Police Department is mourning the death of one of their own after Detective Alicia Stone passed away a week after undergoing controversial cosmetic surgery in Colombia.

As per the New York Post, Stone, a mother of three, traveled to the South American country to receive a butt lift and liposuction procedure.

Law enforcement sources say that she was rushed to Fundación Valle del Lili Hospital in Cali after being discovered unresponsive in her hotel room at around 6:30 a.m. Thursday, October 29.

Detective Stone, who reports say had served 13 years in the NYPD, was part of the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau. She was tragically pronounced dead just one hour after arriving at hospital.

At the time of writing her cause of death is listed as “unspecified cardiac arrest”, though her grieving husband, Michael Stone, is requesting an investigation.

Sources say Stone was taking anticoagulants and pain medication as part of her post-operative plan, while she had been transferred to a hotel to recover after the surgery.

Husband Michael revealed to the Daily News that he plans on requesting an autopsy to ascertain exactly what led to his wife’s sudden death.

“The doctor who called me from Colombia just called me and told me my wife had just passed away,” Michael said.

“She didn’t have any information to tell me when I was asking her….Something just doesn’t add up.”

He added: “To be called Thursday and told that she passed away, that is just shocking and hurtful.

“I don’t have the facts, and that’s what I need, the facts of what happened.”

Michael also said that his wife had been “perfectly fine” before undergoing the procedure and that she had told relatives the day before her passing that she was feeling alright.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, a Brazilian Butt Lift – technically termed a gluteal fat transfer procedure – involves moving fat from other parts of the body to increase the size of an individual’s buttocks.

As per the New York Post, experts have said that uncommon complications, such as a fat embolus, resulting in death, can occur from injecting fat intramuscularly.

Rest in peace, Detective Alicia Stone.
