Texas Hospital Welcomes Its Biggest Newborn Ever
A record-breaking birth that left doctors stunned
Doctors and staff at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital witnessed a historic and unforgettable moment when a baby boy was born weighing nearly 15 pounds, setting a new record for the largest newborn in the hospital’s history.
The baby, named Ali, weighed an astonishing 14 pounds and 13 ounces, surpassing every previous birthweight recorded at the facility. Even the delivering physician was amazed, stating that in more than 30 years of medical practice, he had never encountered a newborn of such remarkable size.
Parents never expected such a dramatic surprise
Ali’s parents, Jennifer and Eric Medlock, knew they were expecting a large baby but believed his weight would be closer to 10 pounds. No one anticipated a birth that would so dramatically exceed expectations.
Due to his size, Jennifer delivered Ali via cesarean section, just as she had with her first child. The procedure was successful, and both mother and baby were stable following delivery.
Special care in the neonatal intensive care unit
After birth, Ali was transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for close monitoring as a precaution. Doctors explained that he showed signs of low blood sugar levels and a reduced platelet count, conditions sometimes seen in exceptionally large newborns.
With specialized medical attention and continuous observation, the healthcare team expressed confidence in his progress and recovery.
A moment the hospital and family will never forget
This extraordinary birth has become a memorable milestone for the hospital staff and a life-changing story for the Medlock family. Ali entered the world not only with a record-breaking weight, but with a story that will be remembered for years to come.
A powerful reminder that nature still knows how to surprise us.
