Chicago’s far-left, Democratic Mayor, Brandon Johnson, is in hot water with the Trump Department of Justice because he admitted to being racially discriminatory in his hiring practices, comments that prompted an investigation brought by the DOJ. After that investigation was announced, he went on Jen Psaki’s show on MSNBC and had a panicked freakout about the situation during which he rambled, ranted, and raved about the composition of the Trump Administration.
As background, the situtation began when Mayor Johnson gave a speech Chicago’s Woodlawn Church on Sunday, May 18. During that speech, he claimed to be in the habit of handing out city contracts on a favorable basis to make up for wealth that he claimed has been stolen from African-Americans. In short, he claimed to be using city contracts as his own reparations scheme. That is illegal under the Civil Rights Act, so the DOJ soon launched an investigation into his seemingly illegal activity.
So, a few days after the investigation, on Friday, May 23, Mayor Johnson appeared on MSNBC to speak with Jen Psaki and freak out over the situation, claiming that President Trump and his administration are only prosecuting him because the Trump Administration “reflects the country club.” Johnson says he, in contrast, “clearly reflects the country.”
Making that claim to the former Biden press secretary, Mayor Johnson first insisted that the investigation brought by the DOJ was clearly an attempt at intimidation rather than justice-seeking, saying, “This [Trump] administration is working overtime to work to intimidate the people of Chicago, and quite frankly, the people of our country.”
Continuing, he insisted that his administration was composed of the best sorts of people, insinuating that it was talent rather than affirmative action that got them their positions. He said, “I’m very proud that I have a group of incredibly talented, highly qualified, diverse Chicagoans who represent my administration.”
Adding to that, and making the snide remark about country clubs, the Chicago mayor said, “We have the most talented, diverse administration in the history of Chicago, and in fact, my administration clearly reflects the country, while the president’s administration reflects the country club.”
Then, defending his racial hiring policies by insisting that he was trying to represent the interests of working people, Johnson told her, “There’s a fundamental disagreement around how we should approach these critical times that we’re living in, and our approach is to ensure that the interests of working people are front and center. That’s what my administration reflects, and that’s what the people of this country want to see in administrations across this country.”
And, attacking the Trump Administration as unqualified, Johnson said, “Well, you would be hard pressed to find someone in the Trump administration that is actually qualified or actually have the skill that is necessary and the background to actually represent the interest of the American people.”
He added, on that point, “So when you think about the Department of Education, not qualified, when you think about Health and Human Services, unqualified. Look, the bottom line is this, that the people of the city of Chicago elected me to speak to their interests.” Watch him here:
