Some nights stay with you forever, even when they seem ordinary at the time. One of those nights began for my wife and me just after two in the morning, driving home from a small party on the outskirts of town. The roads were empty, the air was cold, and conversation had faded into that comfortable silence couples fall into after a long evening.
