Darrell Sheets’ ‘Storage Wars’ Costars Offer to Help With Funeral Costs After Tragic Death at 67 (Exclusive)

Some of Darrell Sheets’ Storage Wars costars are willing to help with his funeral costs after the reality star reportedly died by suicide, Us Weekly can exclusively reveal.

“[Darrell’s family] might just do something small and quaint and easy for them. I know that we would all chip in and help and try to make it right for them if they had anything else in mind that they would want to do,” Dan Dotson told Us on Tuesday, April 28.

According to Dan, 63, he and his wife, Laura Dotson, have already spoken to their Storage Wars costar Rene Nezhoda about the offer.

“We just kind of talked about it a little bit [with Rene],” Dan said. “I’m sure the cast would be all good with [pitching in for funeral costs], and I’m sure production would be good, and the network would be good with doing something if they could just figure out what that something is.”

Dan explained that the first order of business is trying to “figure out what the family wants, and then try to fit in and around that.”

Like fans, Dan is hoping for answers about Sheets’ final sendoff.

“I know that the public would love to know, [and] a lot of his fans would like to participate and show their respect. I just wish I had answers,” he told Us. “I’ve had a lot of his fans reach out wondering what the heck’s going on, and it seems like there’s a lot more than what meets the eye.”

Sheets died at age 67 after an apparent suicide on Wednesday, April 22, in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, a spokesperson for the Lake Havasu City Police Department confirmed to Us.

An official cause of death has not been confirmed.

Both Dan and Laura, 57, worked with Sheets on Storage Wars before his retirement from the A&E reality series in 2023.

Before his death, Sheets had spoken out about being allegedly cyberbullied. Laura exclusively told Us that Sheets feared for his life over the alleged online harassment.

“His family told us that this has been happening for three years,” she shared on April 24. “[It happens to] even strong men that you think aren’t gonna get their feelings hurt. Cyberbullying is a real thing. This made him feel less than, and it really obviously bothered him. He was terrified for his life [and] for the people around him. He didn’t know why he was being targeted.”

Storage Wars star Dusty Riach recalled one of Sheets’ last known interactions, in which he accepted a lowball offer on several items he was selling. Riach noted that it was not like Sheets.

“I think Daryl was asking $125,000 and my friend gave him $50,000 [for an estate collection],” Riach exclusively told Us on April 26. “For him to ask that much and then my friend to offer him that — [without Darrell saying] give me $60,000, or like, pushing for an extra five grand … Darrell said yep, that’s fine.

“Even the last watch deal I did with Darrell, we were bickering over like, $50 with each other. So I would say this was 110 percent fully out of character for him.”

Riach recalled that after they learned about Sheets’ death, the friend said “it felt like he was tying up his affairs,” adding that Sheets even called to ensure the check would clear.

Over the weekend, Storage Wars: Back to the Locker paid homage to the network’s fallen star.

The Saturday, April 25, episode ended with a title card reading “In Memoriam Darrell Sheets,” alongside the dates of his birth and death.
