Former drug addict transformed with drastic $38K smile makeover

The life of 29-year-old Philadelphia resident Brittany Negler would change after she suffered a severe personal tragedy. Her 18-year-old brother’s untimely death sent her into a deep emotional hole. Brittany was unable to handle the terrible loss and eventually resorted to drugs in an effort to dull the pain.

Her physical health suffered greatly as a result of her addiction, most obviously her teeth. Her oral health quickly deteriorated as her drug use increased. She gradually lost several of her teeth, and the ones that remained developed severe decay and infection. Brittany was caught in a vicious cycle: her substance abuse was fueled by the shame she felt about her appearance and the discomfort of her deteriorating teeth, and her addiction made her health even worse.

After a while, Brittany made the decision to get treatment and started her road to recovery. She went to a dentist to take care of her teeth as part of her attempts to start over. But instead of receiving encouragement and hope, she was dealt a devastating blow when she was informed that her teeth were irreparable. After concluding that they were “unfixable,” the dentist extracted all of the remaining teeth.

Brittany became emotionally and physically vulnerable as a result. She rapidly lost weight due to her inability to chew solid food, reaching a dangerously low 35 kilograms (about 77 pounds). Her condition worsened to the point where doctors said she might require a feeding tube. Feeling ashamed and depressed, she withdrew from social interactions as her self-esteem collapsed.

However, a fortuitous meeting transformed everything for Brittany just when she thought there was no hope left. She made contact with cosmetic dentist Dr. Kenny Wilstead of Texas, who is renowned for creating smile makeovers that can change people’s lives. Dr. Wilstead offered to help after being deeply moved by Brittany’s story and her resolve to change her life. He gave her a complete dental makeover that cost more than $38,000.

The change was nothing short of spectacular. Dr. Wilstead used cutting-edge cosmetic dentistry techniques to restore her smile with prosthetics and dental implants that not only looked natural but also allowed her to confidently eat, smile, and speak again. Brittany started crying as soon as she saw her new smile in the mirror; the tears were tears of relief, gratitude, and joy.

The dental work represented a significant milestone in Brittany’s life and was more than just a cosmetic alteration. It signaled the end of a difficult chapter and the start of a fresh one. She started to regain her confidence, eat healthily, and engage in life once more after her smile was restored and her health improved. Since then, she has turned into an advocate for dental rehabilitation and addiction recovery, sharing her experience to encourage those who are depressed or ashamed of their past.

Her story serves as a potent reminder that healing is possible no matter how severe the pain is, and that sometimes it starts with something as basic as a smile that can change someone’s life.
