NYPD Crushes Crime Machines: Thousands of Illegal Mopeds Bulldozed in NYC Crackdown… See more

Authorities in New York City are intensifying their crackdown on illegal mopeds and scooters, sending what officials describe as a strong message to repeat offenders and reckless riders. In Staten Island, bulldozers crushed hundreds of seized vehicles as part of a major citywide enforcement operation targeting unregistered and unsafe transportation devices.

According to city officials, more than 5,700 illegal mopeds and scooters have already been confiscated in 2026, marking a 10% increase from the previous year. Authorities say these vehicles frequently speed through sidewalks, bike lanes, and busy streets, creating dangerous situations for pedestrians, drivers, and cyclists across the city.

Law enforcement officials also warn that criminals increasingly use illegal scooters and mopeds as quick getaway vehicles during robberies and violent crimes. Supporters of the crackdown argue that removing these vehicles from the streets is necessary to restore public safety and reduce chaos in neighborhoods already struggling with traffic and crime concerns.
