A day of reckoning is coming for the first responders of Chicago! NBC’s 2026 One Chicago crossover event finally has an official title and it seems the creative team is making it clear a reckoning is coming with the crossover event dubbed “Reckoning.”

The title certainly has us anxious to know what is to come in the 2026 crossover event and seems to suggest that severe consequences are coming. It seems that lives will be on the line, we just don’t know whose lives will be hanging in the balance. In fact, the official synopsis for Chicago Med’s portion of the event explicitly warns that lives hang in the balance.

While we’re still waiting for stills from the crossover and new promotional footage, NBC has gifted us with episode synopsis information for the three shows which paints a picture of what is to come.

The action will begin on Chicago Fire when Firehouse 51 is called to an airfield after a passenger jet goes silent mid-air. This triggers a high-stakes emergency and their discovery cracks open a bigger and deadlier mystery. This mystery has consequences that could put countless lives in jeopardy.

Chicago Fire will then hand things off to Chicago Med, where the doctors at Gaffney will be thrust into a race against time as they try to unravel a baffling medical mystery that is linked to the passenger jet. As teased by NBC, the ticking clock stems from lives hanging in the balance, suggesting that there is a need for urgent answers about a potential alignment impacting individuals or some type of medical device connected to the medical mystery side of things.

Interestingly, there is a moment in the promo for the crossover in which we see an explosion go off at Gaffney. In the brief clip, it almost looks as though an individual ignites which has us wondering if the person was in possession of an explosive device or if perhaps this medical mystery will involve some sort of medical device being weaponized.

Thankfully, the doctors at Gaffney and Firehouse 51’s first responders won’t be the only ones on the case as the Intelligence Unit will be working alongside the FBI to bring the culprit to justice. As the synopsis for Chicago PD’s hour of the crossover teases, the airfield emergency with the passenger plane propels Intelligence into a high-stakes pursuit that takes place under the watchful eye of the FBI – which includes Upton. Upton’s involvement is surely going to create some unique dynamics as she works alongside her former colleagues now as a member of the FBI!

“Reckoning, Part 3” (Chicago PD) – An airfield emergency triggers a deeper mystery involving a passenger plane, propelling the Intelligence Unit into a high?stakes pursuit of the culprit, all under the sharp eye of the FBI.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the three shows blend together with this year’s crossover event. Hopefully, we’ll see something such as the “In the Trenches” crossover with the shows telling a cohesive storyline that flows effortlessly through the shows, rather than being a pass-the-baton type situation with the story being handed off from one show to the next.
