It started innocently, the way most complicated stories do.
Daniel was new to the town—charming, thoughtful, and the kind of man who listened like every word mattered. He met Elena first, a woman in her early forties who carried both strength and quiet loneliness in equal measure. She ran a small art studio downtown, and Daniel began visiting often, always under the excuse of “wanting to learn painting.”
Elena’s daughter, Sofia, noticed him next.
Sofia was twenty-two, bright-eyed, restless, and nothing like her mother in temperament. Where Elena was composed and careful, Sofia was impulsive and curious. When Daniel began showing up at family gatherings, it was Sofia who first made him laugh.
