The body of 10-year-old Dulce Victoria was recovered from the Lerma River following a desperate two-day search, authorities in Salamanca, Guanajuato, have confirmed. The tragedy unfolded on Thursday afternoon when two children were playing near the riverbank and accidentally slipped into the water. While one child managed to save themselves by grabbing onto a nearby tree branch, the current proved too strong for Dulce, who was quickly swept away.
Emergency response teams, including personnel from the local fire department, Civil Protection, the Red Cross, and a dedicated group of volunteer divers, conducted an exhaustive search that spanned both day and night. Their efforts concluded on Saturday morning when the young girl’s body was located. This devastating loss has deeply impacted the Salamanca community. In the wake of the incident, local officials have issued a stern warning to families, urging them to exercise extreme caution near river areas, particularly during times when water currents are high and dangerous.
