Secret Service Investigates Gunfire Near White House: Report

The United States Secret Service said Sunday it is investigating reports of overnight gunfire near Lafayette Square, located across from the White House. No injuries were reported, and no suspect was found after authorities searched the park and surrounding area shortly after midnight. Donald Trump was at the White House at the time, with officials confirming that operations continued as normal, though security was increased. The Secret Service is coordinating with the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia and the United States Park Police as the investigation continues.

Meanwhile, the United States and Iran agreed to a two-week cease-fire Tuesday evening as a deadline set by Trump approached. Speaking in Hungary alongside Viktor Orbán, Vice President JD Vance said the U.S. expected a clear response from Iran by 8 p.m. He emphasized the importance of stable global energy supplies, warning that economic disruption tied to Iran’s actions could trigger further consequences. Vance added that the U.S. has additional measures available if Iran does not change its approach.

Tensions have centered on the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil shipments. Trump recently claimed Iran allowed additional oil tankers to pass through the strait, calling it a step toward de-escalation, though Iranian officials described it as routine trade. Before the conflict escalated in February, the strait handled roughly one-third of global oil exports, but traffic has since dropped sharply. Trump has warned of severe consequences if Iran does not reopen the route or agree to terms, as the situation continues to impact global energy markets.
